About WACCA

An institution for evidence, coordination and lasting capacity

WACCA is hosted at KNUST’s College of Engineering to strengthen air-quality regulation, monitoring and data in Ghana and support regional cooperation across West Africa.

Mandate

Connecting science to implementation

The Centre supports public institutions and partners in translating air-quality evidence into coordinated action.

Its initial programme combines standards and regulatory guidance, a calibrated low-cost monitoring network, open data, regional consultation and training. Progress against these programme commitments will be documented through public updates.

WACCA operates through its host institution, programme leadership and collaborative network.

Host institutionKNUST provides the Centre’s academic and administrative home through the College of Engineering.
Programme leadershipThe Project Lead and Project Coordinator are responsible for delivery and coordination within the approved programme.
Multi-Stakeholder Working GroupA national forum intended to connect government, regulators, academia, cities, civil society and implementation partners.
Funding supportThe initial programme is supported by the UNEP Climate & Clean Air Coalition.
Regional engagementConsultation and training are intended to connect relevant institutions across the current 12 ECOWAS member states.
